These monoprints come out of my meditative process, attempting to depict sounds that I hear internally. This desire comes from my training as a visual artist and vocalist--and as someone who is sometimes hyper-aware of sensations. The marks in these prints all start from a beat, lyric, or name that I hear repeatedly, and I subsequently let abstract evocations flow out of my brush. The results, possibly, evoke how alphabets or systems were first developed to capture spoken language.
These "Rhythm Prints" are from my time in the Teaching Artist Residency at Marwen Foundation (May 2019).

SOLD "War Drums Memory" is a rhythm that came up from what felt like an ancient memory I experienced whilst meditating. It represents my Indigenous side and the deeply engrained memories of colonial war coming on the horizon. The rows of marks represent the countless people, seeds, and cultural expressions that have been lost through colonialism. And, the collaged materials and layers of the piece suggest the continually unknown forces that come into the picture of our collective experience."
